It's very much widespread like that in colloquial conversation, still. You refer to a route by its number, unless the prefix is anything other than what you'd expect it to be, based on what borough you're in, and what mode of bus you're using.Even if you're in Manhattan waiting for an express bus to Brooklyn (BM 1 through BM4) you'll hear people say "I took the 2 the other day but the 3 is better for me" or something to that effect. |
