The double-decker tour bus driver who slammed into another bus and injured 14 people in Times Square Tuesday while allegedly high on drugs has had his drivers license suspended 20 times, officials said.

William Dalambert’s struggle to retain his license dates back more than two decades when he first lost lost it in 1993, according to a spokeswoman at the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles.

Nine of his suspensions were for driving an unregistered vehicle; four were for unspecified violations; two were for not having insurance; two were for not filing paperwork properly and three were over unpaid child support, according to the spokeswoman.

His most recent suspension was in Nov. 2013.

Dalambert, who had a valid license at the time of the crash, was arrested and charged early Wednesday with driving while ability impaired.

A drug recognition expert gave the 58-year-old driver a sobriety test at the scene, which he failed, and he later agreed to submit to a blood and urine test.

The results of those tests were still pending Wednesday afternoon and it remains unclear what type of drugs he may have been on.

The allegations of Dalambert’s possible drug use shocked his estranged wife, who said she has been worried sick since hearing he was behind the wheel during Tuesday’s crash.

“He doesn’t take drugs, so I don’t know what happened to him,” said a distraught Yma Dalambert. “I saw the accident on the TV. I am very scared for him.”

“He has no problems I know of,” she added. “He’s been driving a long time.”

Dalambert’s supervisor said the veteran driver had just begun his shift before he crashed the double-decker Gray Line bus he was driving into a parked City Sights double-decker near the TKTS discount Broadway ticket booth at the corner of 47th Street and Seventh Avenue around 3:30 p.m.

His bus then jumped the curb and knocked over a traffic light that injured several pedestrians.

Dalambert insisted that he crashed the bus because of a brake failure but inspectors said the bus checked out with no mechanical problems.

Gray Line and City Sights tour buses are inspected twice a year by the state Department of Transportation. They passed inspection in April.
