Yes it is lying.

To say we have seen a decrease in travel times of 20 percent implies the average passenger saves 20 percent. He is not saying the bus travels from end to end 20 percent quicker which would be true.

As far as if the reduced service south of Avenue U is justified, that is another issue. Yes, not only is the reduced service on the local justified, but the SBS service south of Avenue U is also a waste with an average of six passengers per bus. That is because hoards of riders did not switch from the Brighton Line to the 2 and 5 as the MTA predicted.

What is wrong with the reduced local service is that the MTA never told the community that existing local service would be cut so severely forcing longer walks to bus stops.

People aren't complaining about the long walks to SBS because they switched from te Limited to the local since the time it takes for the additional walk isn't worth the SBS time savings for many. It is only worth it if your trip is like 5 miles and the extra walk is only at one end. If you have an extra five minute walk at each end, you would need to save at least 10 minutes on the SBS just to break even, not to mention the inconvenience of walking in hot, cold, windy, rainy or snowy weather. So a five minute longer local bus ride may be more comfortable.

The MTA is only considering SBS riders who save time and ignoring local and former Limited riders who now have longer trips because of longer waits.
