(Friday)
A Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus was involved in an accident with a bicyclist and multiple parked cars in Brooklyn Friday.

As CBS 2′s Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2, the accident happened just after 5 p.m. on Columbia Street in the Cobble Hill section of the borough.

The MTA said the bus driver swerved to try to avoid hitting a bicyclist but was unsuccessful — hitting the bike and several parked cars.

There appears to be no serious injuries in connection with the crash, Biermann reported. The bus driver, limping slightly, walked into the back of an ambulance with two EMS personnel, Biermann reported.

Neighbors along the waterfront were angry over the accident, but not at the bus driver, 1010 WINS’ Derricke Dennis reported.

In fact, witnesses said it was a rogue delivery guy on a bicycle who rolled out in front of the bus, causing the accident.

“The bus driver tried to swerve out of the way, not to hit the person on the bike, and to avoid that he crashed into parked cars, and the cars were pretty damaged,” said witness Gina.

Gina said she was glad it wasn’t her car. Both were mangled by the bus, while the biker walked away practically unscathed, Dennis reported.

Neighbor John said it’s bicyclists like that who should have to pay.

“Right across the street there’s a bike lane specifically designed for bicyclists,” he said.

Police left notes on the damaged cars so the owners would know what happened, Dennis reported.
