Well I don't necessarily disagree with that general logic, but there's times and places to make exceptions. A low frequency is alright if the route is fairly reliable, so you know that if you get there 5 minutes before it's scheduled to come, you won't have to wait too long (maybe you'll wait 10 minutes instead of 5 minutes). But on a route dealing with Manhattan traffic, it needs to be more frequent, or else people are going to stick with the alternatives (either the subway or the M11), because nobody wants to experience bunching on 30 minute headways.I just find it ironic that they're making such a big deal about adding short shuttles to growing neighborhoods, and yet they cut the B71, which was exactly that (and ridership was growing before they cut it). Ridership was 1,080 riders per weekday before it was cut, which was higher than the B32, B84, and Bx46 (even accounting for the fact that these services started mid-year, and the average daily ridership will likely be higher next year), and the cost-efficiency was probably better as well. |
