That would be great. Just focus on one thing and stick with it.To put a whole bunch of features on one route is NOT cost-effective (and therefore NYC's version of BRT is not cost-effective either). For example, take the combination of the reduction in stops and the on-street fare payment. Well, the on-street fare payment reduces dwell times in stops, but the number of stops has been reduced so the total dwell time savings per run is minimized. Yes, fewer stops will mean a faster ride but the time savings is minimal now considering how many people at ex-limited, non-SBS stops are being left out in the cold. Although I can see how the on-street fare payment can be expensive because of the machines needed. Hopefully with whatever comes after MetroCard, the technology will allow one to board the bus with their card, pay on the bus at any door, even after the bus has left the stop, and be able to have their card checked at random to see if fare was paid. That would be real time-savings. |
