Brooklyn residents rallied in Sunset Park on Saturday in hopes of restoring the B37 bus route, which was cut by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in 2010 to close a budget shortfall.Transit Users Rally In Sunset Park To Bring Back Discontinued Bus Line The B37 previously served neighborhoods from Fort Hamilton to Downtown Brooklyn, and demonstrators said the area along the old route is underserved by mass transit. "The elderly, families, the disabled, the chronically ill, all need this service," said one resident. "I've lived in this community since 1949, and that bus has always been there for us. I'm handicapped, I can't go into the subway," said another. MTA officials said they attended a community meeting on the issue Thursday and will take their suggestions under advisement. http://brooklyn.ny1.com/content/top_stories/183916/transit-users-rally-in-sunset-park-to-bring-back-discontinued-bus-line#sthash.MWjSYVB7.dpuf |
