Staten Island motorists seeing red over MTA paint job on Richmond Av |
|
Posted by Gold_12TH on Mon Jul 23 21:39:45 2012 Traffic was snarled on Richmond Avenue today while the city Department of Transportation painted the right lane red between Arthur Kill and Forest Hill road. The Staten Island Mall-bound lane was painted red to make way for a Select Bus Service (SBS) route. The route runs down Richmond Avenue from the Staten Island Mall to Hylan Boulevard, up the East Shore and into Brooklyn at 4th Avenue and 86th Street. The MTA plans to convert the S79 into the SBS route with fewer stops and designated bus lanes, such as the lane currently being painted. The S59 will continue to provide local bus stops on Richmond Avenue and the S78 will still make local stops on Hylan Boulevard, but the S79, when the SBS begins in September according to an MTA report, will offer an more efficient route that will save commuters about 15 minutes in their commutes one way. |
