Don't know what times you ride the B49, but empty buses south of Foster are certainly not the norm most of the time. In fact when I used to ride it occasionally during the midday, buses were usually crowded along Ocean Avenue with extremely heavy turnover which made the line run very slow.I am not disputing that ridership north of Foster isn't even heavier. That's because ridership in north and central Brooklyn is heavier than in southern Brooklyn due to lower car ownership. There is definitely a market for both the B49 and B44 SBS. I agree that truncating the route would be a terrible idea and have advocated for over ten years to reroute the B49 straight along Ocean and east to Utica Avenue along with other changes. |
