When I was younger (I'm 20 now), there were very few times I didn't have money or my school pass for the train/bus and if I didn't have my fare, I wouldn't ride because I wasn't going to put myself in an embarrassing situation by telling the bus operator I didn't have my fare and not be let on or jump the turnstile and risk getting caught. I'd just skate to school from my house and back if I didn't get a new card issued to me. Although it took 20 minutes longer I was never a fan of free rides on the bus.
