Passengers being stuck in traffic is not NICE's problem - all they can do is have enough operators and buses available to maintain the promised 30-minute headway. Not the same scale as yesterday, but Centro in Syracuse sometimes faces similar issues with its park & ride shuttles to the New York State Fair. A popular concert combined with good weather will often bring over 100,000 patrons to the fairgrounds on a single day and overwhelm the approaches on I-690 and NYS 695. Centro promises a 20-minute headway on its most popular P&R routes and will dispatch extra buses as needed to maintain the headways and to provide the necessary capacity. Sure, people hate getting stuck on a bus in traffic but will usually understand that they would be no better off if they drove (and would have farther to walk once they arrive). |
