A lot of Orion people in upstate NY are looking for jobs.Migration from one state to another has been down in recent years. Part of it has to do with people not being able to sell their homes without losing money, and another part of it is the proliferation these days of two-income households - one person might lose their job and be willing to move to another state, but their partner may not want to give up their career or could have difficulty finding a comparable job in that state. There are also family considerations, especially if someone is thinking of moving from New York state all the way down to New Mexico. New York state has already pledged to offer job retraining assistance for the displaced Orion workers - I suspect many will take that aid and try new careers here rather than uproot and move almost 2,000 miles away to work for another bus manufacturer with uncertain long-term prospects. |
