The 77 parallels the Morris and Essex in East Orange and Orange, as well as passing right by the Morristown station, but it also serves several towns with no rail service, such as Livingston, East Hanover, Whippany and West OrangeIf NJT hadn't allowed the Morristown & Erie to get ripped out west of Great Notch, it could have served Whippany by rail. They were equally neglectful with the former Erie Orange Branch, which they could have connected to the Morris & Essex just south of West Orange. I believe the 77 has more potential if it carried locally Sure, potential to have its average speed slowed down a great deal. If there are parallel local bus routes, NJT doesn't want them competed with anyhow; only if they start running the 77 themselves would they do such a thing. |
