No, it's always been an MBTA route (it was numbered 300 until 1996). I believe the original purpose was to give patrons of the Riverside park & ride who were heading to Boston's financial district a faster and more direct ride. It was a far heavier route at one time - I checked some of my old T schedules in 1990, route 300 had 18 inbound trips leaving Riverside each weekday between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m. and 13 outbound trips departing Federal and Franklin Streets in downtown Boston between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. (compare this to a total of 3 inbound a.m. trips and 4 outbound p.m. trips in the current schedule). |
