March 23, 1962 saw the first MABSTOA buses on NYC streets, after the City seized the buses and garages from Fifth Avenue Coach and Surface Transit. That day, a Friday, was the first day the new NYCTA subsidiary MABSTOA operated buses. By the following week, ther was normal service on virtually all Manhattan and Bronx routes except for the #2 (5th-7th Aves., today's M2), and the #6 (72nd Street Crosstown, part of which survived as the M30 till a few years ago but is now gone completely). Fifty years later MABSTOA still exists on paper but its operations have been integrated with the rest of the NYCTA's operations.
