If you think about it, there are some cases where it would help somebody make a trip if they could transfer between the local and limited in opposite directions. They would be able to take the limited past their stop and then backtrack 1 or 2 stops on the local. It might be faster than making the transfer in the same direction. The same for the 5th/Madison Avenue routes. Technically, somebody might live along 5th/Madison Avenue and want to go along 110th Street, so they could take the M1 and then take the M2/3/4 across 110th Street. Of course, the majority of the riders would just use it to make two trips on one fare. With the way NYC's transit system is set up, there are plenty of ways to make a round-trip on one fare if you're willing to do some walking. I've taken the S46 home from school, got off along South Avenue, got something to eat and then walked over to the S44 (on Richmond Avenue) to go to the YMCA. In the case of the B6 riders, they could walk over to the B8 to get a round-trip, or the B82 in certain areas. |
