I'd blame Floral Park for preventing the LIRR station extension from ever coming to fruition.

A one bus per hour route connecting to a lightly used Zone 4 LIRR branch isn't exactly a ridership generator. I would help, but I don't think enough to really skew the numbers into saving the line under current austerity. Hell, the other end connected to the LIRR at Little Neck which is Zone 3...

FWIW, I suspect the real problem is that in the time that it would take wait for the Q79, one could walk to the Q36, Q43, Q46, Q31, and Q12. If you're unable to walk that far, you end up qualifying for para-transit, and if you live in the neighbourhood, you're likely to own a car in the first place. Even from the MTA's perspective, if you're a worker trying to get to that area, you'll simply take a north-south bus route further west to get to the east-west bus route that's needed. The people who are ultimately affected are those who don't drive, don't qualify for para-transit and have short-rides (i.e Bellrose to Deepdale) that would become absurdly longer with backtracking.
