I have no idea how its figured out, i just know Suffolk claims to get less then Nassau. I believe they said that its just a tad more then they get back in fares, or less then they get back in fares. (i'm not exactly sure since the claim was made five or six years ago i believe)According to the National Transit Database for 2009, MSBA gets 44 percent of its operating funds from the State ($59.6M) and 31 percent from fare revenue ($42.9M). Suffolk gets 42 percent of its operating funds from the State ($21.9M) and 15 percent from the farebox ($7.6M). Suffolk did get significantly less State assistance in 2004 (29% State/20% farebox) versus MSBA (42% State/36% farebox). |
