I just find out that some of the remaining D-901s were retired when the 2900 series NABIs came in 1997, so they were some still in service in 1996 and its possible you did see one.

I also just heard that as of 6/10/2010 AC Transit retired some of their New Flyer D60HF (1914, 1919, 1926, 1927) and some of the Flexibles (152, 155). The New Flyers will be missed, but I hated the Flexibles and thought that they should have been retired years ago. The Flexes were built in 1992 and the New Flyers in 1996. The Vanhools are now more closer to completely controlling AC Transit's fleet, they already control the 30ft buses after the 30ft 1991 Gillig Phantoms (2700s) were retired earlier this year.
