It's not 'irrational' to be concerned with losing a credit/debit card, and the consequences and dealing with those consequences, can be burdensome. And losing a card linked to your bank account is even worse; while you wait for the bank to verify that you're not scamming them, there is the potential of further loss if checks and electronic payments start bouncing.

And I'm sure that if such a scheme were to come before the public, many other people would express the same opinion, along with the nutty 'big brother's gonna track me' types.
