Swipe it, dip it, shove it, insert it; for god shakes it's old fashion. You have to replace it when it is damage and in one year when its expired and less. It is a pain in the ass to maintain the farebox on buses if the MetroCard got stuck, it means free rides. It is also sucks when you lose the MetroCard easily because you frequently take the MetroCard out of your wallet many times. The smartcard solve all those problems. You dont need to swipe it, dip it, shove it, insert it. You cant lose it if you put in the wallet and pay the fare by holding the wallet to the reader. It is less hassle when its maintainable on the computer. It may not be 2009, but to label the MetroCard as caveman technology is wholly inaccurate. The system works pretty well. It would work better if the turnstiles at certain stations got cleaned more, but that isn't a fault of the technology per se. The MTA would be better off pushing the EasyPay MetroCard, reducing their cash handling costs in the process. MTA is lazy yet they are money waster. The EasyPay MetroCard also suffer durable issues and the lag time to replace it. |
