It will soon be 2010. 2012 isn't really that far off for such a complex system. But I think it will be great once it's proven and the bugs are worked out. Yes, the technology is there and it will simplify things for passengers who might use several transit systems. They won't need to find change for exact fares or even carry much money at all. And the "tap" rather than "swipe" method will be a vast improvement. There have been many problems with the "swipe" system, in NYC and elsewhere. I envision this new system to spread all over the Northeast, to many transit systems. Like I said, it will be an equivalent to the E-Z Pass system, but for mass transit. |
