I've found an easy way to determine the original number of a renumbered LI Bus. Check the license plate. Unlike PBL to MTA Bus, LI Bus keeps their "Official" license plates through the change. Also note that the number of the bus is stamped onto the license plate. Noticing this, I was able to determine that the bus now carrying the number 1626 was formerly number 389.

The renumbering also appears to be a cover job, covering the old number with the new. Catch the number with the light coming from the right angle, and you'll see the old number raised a little.

Reporting live from Jamaica Terminal, where Bus #1626, running on the N24, just departed, I am R36 #9346.
