TCAT was created in 1996 by coordinating three transit operators - Ithaca Transit, CU Transit and Tompkins County Transit - and the agencies were officially merged in 2004. All three contributed buses to the TCAT fleet. As far as I can tell, the Orion I's were purchased new by Ithaca Transit and CU Transit between 1983 and 1993. When I first visited Ithaca in 1999, I believe the 1983 O1's were already retired, but the newer ones were still in service. The 'hammerhead' O1's are just now reaching 12 years of service.

I'm not aware of TCAT buying any used buses in recent years. Since the mid-1990's, they purchased Nova RTS's, Nova LFS's and most recently New Flyer D40LF's.

I hope this helps clarify things.
