That was not the point of the takeover. The point of the takeover was to rid the city of the responsibility of the bus system. Previously, the franchise system was caught in a turf war between the Council and the mayor. This is why nothing got done. The city can cut or cap subsidies at any time and make the MTA eat it. The purpose of congestion pricing is for the city and state to redirect funds from the general fund to the MTA elsewhere.

You are seeing the deal everyday. Old buses from NYCT go to Bus to be fixed (at city expense). Then, the units plug holes at both Bus and NYCT when necessary. A few of Quill's MCI buses were rehabbed at MTA Bus and then sent to Manhattan. Some of Bus's MCIs were sent to SI. Get my drift? The MTA is going to milk Bus for all it is worth as long as the blank check continues to exist.

We are all living it in different ways. I've already gone through the laying off people bit because of the MTA's lawbreaking ways. I do not take people or their jobs lightly. However, we will have systemic failure if the express bus system continues to only recover 23% of its costs. Your cuts at Bus will be minor because you are now the MTA's whipsaw against NYCT. If they [NYCT] can't get the job done the way the MTA wants it, Bus will do it. This is why you do not yet have a contract.
