Also Hank them wheels would not come off for nothing when it came time to change the tires. Another unique quirk for NYC transit, like the Grummans.Mechanics told me they could not take them off with anything. They tried blowtorching them, machining them off, grease, and it was just too labor intensive. I personally loved them since the steel wheels get dirty and quickly lose the whitepaint on them. I hear that since the Hybrids use much less braking due to each of the wheels being a motor they are experimenting again with them. |
