For the Scottsdale buses I just think that Tempe has not gotten around to replacing the LEDot signs. Remember that 4153-4154 are owned by Scottsdale but have Luminator Horizons that were retrofitted by Tempe. Also Tempe-owned buses used to have LEDot sign problems (although the RPTA hand-me-downs had the worst ones). By the way, in a twist of irony, I remember a bus operator telling me how bad the maintenance on the 1999 E-Z Riders that were transferred from the RPTA in 2006 were, given the fact that Tempe has the worst maintenance in the entire system.4. I have always found it unfortunate that the 60-BRTs do not come out on weekends. However, remember that the ridership is much lower on weekends on RPTA routes than on Phoenix routes due to a variety of factors. Also, the 45 and 61 are managed by the RPTA, which unlike Phoenix wants to park their artics during the weekends. (Although the Red Line, which normally uses 50% artics on weekdays, has the greatest size difference in the system, with some trips being run by Tempe 35-LFWs on weekends, and E-Z Riders in very rare circumstances). 7-8. As of 2005, 4401 still runs. The reason why is that 4401 was put on display back in 2005 for the "Sunday on Central" bus festival (the first, and last, bus festival that the City of Phoenix put on display). The bus was driven up to Central and Thomas, along with the Twin Coach. However, you could not go into the bus (although you could peek in). The Twin Coach has absolutely nothing inside, while 4401 has a standard RTS interior. There was another RTS (a 1982 model that I forgot the number of) on display as well (the Phoenix Family Museum bus). This bus you could go inside but it had most of its seats ripped out and replaced with children's exhibits. 11. I have been on the ElDorado Axess a few times (the first was the day the Rental Car Center opened, the second was on another trip, and the third was when I was returning a car with some people). It is pretty nice inside, but lacks such things as stop request cords. 14. As I stated before, the irony is that Tempe thinks that the RPTA has bad maintenance (at least on the E-Z Riders). However, 6254 and 6255 have been essentially run into the ground. If there is any positive thing about Tempe's maintenance practices, it is that the replacement windows that they are putting on the buses are not heavily tinted. Still, Tempe needs to improve its maintenance substantially and turn the lights on their buses (except for the E-Z Riders during the daytime) so that they don't look like a foreboding dungeon. 15-16. Also don't forget the driver side sign on 6254 which is probably broken as well. |
